Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySOPHIA POCHAILO Peacefully on December 20, 2009 at Oakview Place, Sophie Pochailo passed away at the age of 87 years. She is survived by son Larry and daughter Shirley both of Portage la Prairie and was predeceased by her husband Joseph in 1987, daughter Joanne in 1993, her parents Michael and Anna Kolisnyk, sisters Mary, Elizabeth and Olga Gosnel, brother William and nephew Timothy Gosnel. Besides her immediate family, Sophie is survived by nieces Anna and Kimberley Gosnel, brother-in-law Scott Gosnel. Also sisters-in-law Anne Karpinchik and Millie Kuchma, aunts, uncle, cousins, nieces, nephews and niece and Care Giver, Elsie Rosler. Sophie was born on December 13, 1922 in Stuartburn, Manitoba where she spent her early years and was educated. The family moved to Rainy River, ON in the early 1940s where she met and married Joseph Pochailo in February 1945. They lived in Rainy River and Fort Frances, ON before settling in Winnipeg in 1963. Sophie was a very hard working homemaker, wife and mother, spending hours caring for her family, sometimes under very difficult conditions. She was completely devoted to her family. In her spare time she loved to garden and always was proud to show everyone her prize produce. She also enjoyed crocheting, making many beautiful afghans and doilies. Sophie attended St. Ignatius Parish while living in Fort Rouge and joined the ladies Group Roses there. A brief prayer service and viewing will take place prior to the funeral service, which will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 12:30 p.m. with Father Gerald Langevin officiating. Interment will follow in Assumption Cemetery. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Sophie's memory to the Manitoba Developmental Centre, PO Box 1190, Portage La Prairie, MB RlN 3C6.
